The Wendell Carr Memorial Golf Tournament

Greetings Golfers, Supporters, and Family!!

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Wendell H. Carr Memorial Golf Tournament.

We are very disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to celebrate the legacy of a beloved son and father this year; however, if you desire, there remains the option to make personal contributions to the E.S. Carr and Virginia H. Carr Scholarship Fund. Checks should be made payable to North Carolina A&T Foundation, Inc., and should be mailed to 1601 East Market Street, Greensboro, North Carolina 27411. Please signify the scholarship name on the FOR line of your check. Your continued support is always appreciated by the students and of course by my family.

Please continue to take extraordinary care of yourselves. Mask up! Wash your hands! Distance!

We look forward to seeing each of you in August 2021!!!

WHEN SOMEONE YOU LOVE BECOMES A MEMORY….THAT MEMORY BECOMES A TREASURE

Our beloved Wendell. What can we say? He was fittingly described as a well-rounded, exceptional human being because of his many outside interests  which played a significant role. Because he was a true sportsman who over the years enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, bowling, volleyball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and GOLF! Aptly so, golf became his favorite pastime; he mastered the sport and left most of his friendly competitors in sand traps and ponds.

Wen was one of the finest young men that you could ever know, and we were blessed to have him in our lives. He was a gentle soul who loved easily, and everything he did showed the evidence of his kind spirit.

In our human hearts and minds Wen left us before his time. This left his parents, Wendell, Sr. and Vaughnetta, alone without notice. Their only child was transported in the blink of an eye into the Essence. His father, heart disintegrated but loved by God, transitioned only three months later to join Wen, Jr.

Wendell, Jr's best friend and co-coordinator of the tournament Chris Huggins and his wife Kay, who created the tournament logo and creates and provides the tournament gift towels.

Determined to honor the memories of two great and honorable men, the family and Wendell’s dearest friend, Chris Huggins, initiated the annual Wendell Carr Memorial Golf Tournament. The proceeds  fund the E.S. Carr and V.H. Carr Memorial Scholarship. Their legacies live on, and we know they’d be humbly flattered. We, the family and friends, believe these scholarships have the potential to notably affect the educational endeavors of agricultural engineering students at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
